Frequently asked questions

Quick, straightforward answers about identification, plant health, care, photo quality, tracking, pricing and the difference between PlantTalk Personal and PlantTalk Research.

How does PlantTalk identify plants?

PlantTalk uses AI-assisted visual analysis of the photo you provide and returns a likely identification with a confidence level when possible.

Some plants are visually similar, so PlantTalk can also indicate uncertainty instead of pretending every identification is certain.

How accurate is PlantTalk?

There is no single honest accuracy percentage that applies to every plant, image and task. Results depend on image quality, visible plant features, species and whether the question is identification, health or care.

PlantTalk is designed to show confidence and uncertainty rather than claim a guaranteed result.

What kind of photo gives the best result?

You do not need a special camera. A normal modern smartphone photo is usually enough when it is sharp and well lit.

For identification, include distinctive leaves, flowers, fruit or stems where possible. For health checks, include the whole plant plus close-up photos of damaged areas, leaf undersides or the soil if relevant.

Can PlantTalk diagnose plant diseases?

PlantTalk can assess visible symptoms, suggest likely causes and give practical next steps. It may identify signs consistent with pests, disease, watering stress, light stress, physical damage or other visible problems.

A photo-based assessment is not a definitive laboratory diagnosis, so PlantTalk keeps uncertainty visible when the evidence is limited.

Can I compare the same plant later?

Yes. When you choose Track this plant / compare later, PlantTalk can keep that plant as its own case. You can then add a follow-up photo and compare changes over time.

PlantTalk only performs that comparison when the photos are intentionally linked to the same plant, which avoids mixing unrelated plants.

Can PlantTalk help with watering and care?

Yes. PlantTalk can provide practical care guidance covering watering, drainage, light, humidity, temperature, pruning and other common plant-care needs.

Advice is based on the plant information and visible context available, so environmental details you provide can improve the guidance.

Can PlantTalk tell me whether a plant is toxic to pets?

PlantTalk may provide pet-safety information when the plant identification is sufficiently reliable. Because toxicity decisions can be high stakes, you should verify the result with a trusted veterinary or poison-control source before relying on it.

Is PlantTalk free?

New PlantTalk Personal accounts receive 7 days of full access.

After that, PlantTalk Go is £5.99/month if you choose to continue.

Will I be charged automatically after the 7-day trial?

No. Your 7-day access does not automatically charge you at the end. You choose whether to subscribe.

What is PlantTalk Personal?

PlantTalk Personal is the simple everyday side of PlantTalk: identify plants, check visible health problems, ask questions, get care guidance, save plants and track changes over time.

What is PlantTalk Research?

PlantTalk Research is separate from the Personal experience. It is designed for structured plant and agricultural research, including cases, observations, evidence, external scientific data, experiments and researcher-versus-AI validation.

Does PlantTalk replace an expert or laboratory test?

No. PlantTalk is an AI-assisted tool. It can help you understand visible symptoms and decide what to check next, but it does not replace a botanist, plant pathologist, veterinarian or laboratory confirmation when certainty matters.

PlantTalk principle: visible observation, possible cause and confirmed diagnosis are not treated as the same thing. When the photo cannot establish something reliably, PlantTalk should say so.
